God Is Faithful: Holding On When Life Feels Hard

Our family has been going through a lot of changes lately, and life feels heavy, uncertain, and honestly, a bit overwhelming. Through it all, I’m reminded that God is faithful.
This morning, as I walked into the kitchen with my mind weighed down, something caught my eye. Taped to the fridge was a simple drawing from one of my students—a sweet gift I had almost forgotten about.
On it was a verse that stopped me in my tracks:
“Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.” — Psalm 36:5 (NIV)
I’ve read that verse many times, but today, it landed differently. In that quiet moment, it reminded me of something my heart needed to hear—God is faithful. And that truth brought comfort and strength.
What Does It Mean That God Is Faithful?

To say that God is faithful means that He is completely trustworthy, constant, and true to His word. He is who He says He is—and He does what He says He will do.
Even when our lives feel uncertain, His character never changes.
So, who is He?
He is Almighty God, Everlasting Father, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace.
He is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.
He is the Lord of Hosts, the Healer, Redeemer, Savior, and our Coming King.
He is the Great I AM.
And above all, God is good. His goodness is not conditional or circumstantial—it is a steady foundation we can stand on. In His goodness, He gives us promises we can cling to in every season of life. One of the most comforting promises found in Scripture is this:
“He will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)
Let that sink in—never. Not when we doubt. Not when we struggle. Not when we feel weak or overwhelmed. God is not distant or detached. He doesn’t observe our lives from afar. Instead, He is Emmanuel—God with us. He draws near to the brokenhearted, walks beside us in the valley, and rejoices with us on the mountaintop. He is actively involved in the details of our lives, orchestrating things seen and unseen for our ultimate good.
“The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NIV)
His faithfulness isn’t just a comfort—it’s a guarantee. If He has called you, He will complete the work He began in you. No detour, setback, or suffering can derail the faithfulness of our God.
When we can’t see the way forward, we can trust the One who walks before us.
When we don’t feel strong, we can lean on the One who is always steady.
He is faithful. He is with us. He will not fail.
When It’s Hard to Believe God Is Faithful
Let’s be honest—there are times when God’s faithfulness feels like a distant promise rather than a present reality. In the middle of loss, disappointment, or waiting, we can feel like we’re drifting—unseen, unheard, maybe even unloved. The enemy is quick to use those vulnerable moments to whisper lies into our hearts: “You’re alone. Forgotten. Abandoned. God doesn’t see you.”
And because we’re hurting, those lies can sound true.
When life doesn’t unfold the way we prayed for…
When the healing doesn’t come…
When the relationship ends…
When the grief is too heavy to carry…
It’s easy to wonder, “God, where are You? Are You still faithful to me?”
But here’s the truth: God never promised life would be easy. He never guaranteed that we would be spared from suffering, hardship, or confusion. But He did promise something even more profound—His presence.
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33 (NIV)
Jesus didn’t avoid the hard truth. He told us plainly: You will face trouble. But He also told us to take heart—not because the trouble will go away, but because He has overcome.
The faithfulness of God does not mean we will be shielded from every storm.
It means He will not let us face the storm alone.
He walks with us in the fire. He sits with us in our sorrow. He listens when we can’t find words. And even when we can’t feel Him, He is still holding us.
The Psalmist wrote,
“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…” — Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
God’s faithfulness is not based on how we feel—it’s based on who He is.
In our moments of doubt, He remains near.
In our questions, He remains true.
In our silence, He remains present.
So, if you’re in a season where it’s hard to believe that God is faithful—you’re not alone. And more importantly, He’s not leaving. He’s still writing your story. He’s still working in the waiting. And His faithfulness is holding you even now.
Where in the Bible Does It Say God Is Faithful?

If you’re looking for assurance in Scripture, God’s faithfulness is declared over and over:
- Deuteronomy 7:9 – “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God…”
- Isaiah 25:1 – “You have been faithful; you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.”
- 1 Corinthians 10:13 – “And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear…”
- Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
- Joshua 21:45 – “Not one of all the Lord’s good promises… failed; every one was fulfilled.”
- Psalm 33:4 – “For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.”
These verses are not just words on a page. They are promises from a faithful God to anchor your soul.
How Can I Remind Myself of God’s Faithfulness Every Day?
When life feels chaotic or painful, we need daily reminders of who God is and what He’s done. Here are some practical ways to reconnect with His faithfulness:
- Read God’s Word out loud – Choose a few verses about His faithfulness and speak them over your heart.
- Thank Him intentionally – Keep a gratitude list that highlights how He’s been faithful in the past.
- Pray honestly – Bring your doubts, fears, and weariness to Him. He can handle it.
- Embrace His Fatherly love – You are His child. He delights in you—even in your mess.
- Praise Him – Worship shifts our perspective from our problems to God’s power.
Life may still be hard tomorrow. But God is still faithful today. His love reaches to the heavens, and His faithfulness to the skies.
Even when we can’t see it yet.
Even when we don’t feel it.
Even when everything around us is changing.
He does not change.
And He is with us in every transition.
